Apache2 not starting, admin page is offline, shares and SSH are still available

I found one of the problems! In my attemp to debug, I opened /etc/apache2/conf.d/logging and tried to edit the format to a more verbose log. When I set it back to normal, I must have hit 'x' instead of ctrl-x to close and it saved an x at the head of the file. I removed that and apache started and the server is showing me the admin page and the www/ folder again!
Now I just have to figure out the problem with the htaccess files! I just can't seem to get my subfolder to be password protected!
