Backup cannot read from Windows 10 machines
Hi all,
I've had this working in the past, but it won't now - presumably because of a windows update.
I have a couple of Windows 10 boxes, and a Netgear ReadyNAS NV+ v2 running v5.3.13 (which I believe is the latest).
I'd like the ReadyNAS to do a backup every night from the windows boxes. To start with I have a share accessible as //Hercules/Audio that can be accessed by everyone (other windows machines, Macs, RISC OS boxes etc). So I've tried to make a backup job:
Backup Source:
Type: remote
Name: remote: Windows/NAS (Timestamp)
Host: Hercules
Path: Audio
Log In: Robin Watts
Password: ********
Try as I might, I cannot get the NAS to manage to make a connection. I've tried different usernames and passwords to no avail.
Sometimes the "Test Connection" button works, but even then, I get "Unable to access remote path //Hercules/Audio" errors.
Both the NAS and Hercules are on the same LAN, both have the same workgroup name (WORKGROUP).
I am at a loss here. Any hints anyone can give me would be much appreciated. I'd even RTFM if only I could find an FM that covers this!
Thanks!

Oh, and I should say, I can connect *to* the NAS just fine. It's getting the NAS to connect to the computers that's a problem.
This happens with another windows 10 box too, so it's not something particular to Hercules either.Thanks.

Microsoft is starting to deprecate SMB1, and likely the Windows SMB server doesn't have it enabled.
The simplest approach is to use a backup program on the PCs (which can reach the NAS now).
Though longer term, the best option is to switch to another protocol on the Windows system. That might require installing an FTP server or NFS server package.
Or get a new NAS, and re-purpose the v2 as a NAS backup (which can use rsync, and doesn't need SMB).
