Backup Failed - error copying data
I am unable to successfully run a backup of my Pictures folder onto an external USB drive.
I see messages such as...
Error encountered copying data from source path Pictures ==> /USB_HDD_1/backup/Pictures2 due to unknown reason. Please see log.
cp: cannot create directory '/USB_HDD_1/backup/Pictures2/george/.AppleDouble': File exists
cp: writing '/USB_HDD_1/backup/Pictures2/iPhoto Library/Backup/Library6.iPhoto.bak': Input/output error
cp: cannot create directory '/USB_HDD_1/backup/Pictures2/iPhoto Library/Backup/.AppleDouble': Read-only file system
cp: preserving times for '/USB_HDD_1/backup/Pictures2/iPhoto Library/Backup': Read-only file system
.

.
cp: preserving times for '/USB_HDD_1/backup/Pictures2': Read-only file system
My backup job is to copy data from
media:Pictures
to
USB (Front Port)
backup/Pictures2
NB Many files are copied successfully so I do have write access to the disk.
I am running a Macbook Pro and the external USB is ext3.
I'm sure you'll ask to see the logs but I can't access them either. When I click on "Backup Logs' I see the message
- but they never come ( I have waited for hours).
Why do the logs not display? Where are they stored so I can copy them to you manually?
Thanks in advance.
Richard

- fixmacsGuideFor the same reason as stated above. I click on the Log icon, then the words, Loading backup logs... shows on the FrontView screen for hours, and I do mean hours. I gave up and shut down FrontView after four hours of waiting.
I try to be reasonable about software expectations. I know it's impossible to write perfect, bug-free software. It doesn't exist, but I have noticed how Netgear does not maintain the ReadyNAS website. I have found, and reported, serious problems with file download links and a serious problem with installing ReadyNAS Remote, to no avail. I suspect that this is what doomed Infrant products when they sold to Netgear. The neglect to maintain the support webpages doesn't bode well, and now I must explain to my client why the backup isn't working and that I cannot tell him why the backup isn't working because FrontView freezes when I try to read the logs.

Sorry, I ditched the drive and bought a new one. No problems with it thus far. - fixmacsGuideQuestion: Are you able to view the backup logs now?

Yes, everything works great now. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retiredfixmacs, as suggested above by Skywarp, If you go to Status > Logs > Download all logs can you download the logs zip file?
Also as suggested above, there should be a log file there for each backup job e.g. for backup job 1, backup_001.log - fixmacsGuideGot it. Thanks.
