Backup to google drive. Is it at all possible ?

Using the FrontView Backup Manager won't work. It would need an add-on that knows how to talk to cloud providers.

There are many cloud backup solutions. We currently have ReadyNAS Vault as an option and there are third-parties that make add-ons that work with our NAS for a cloud backup solution. There is an Egnyte add-on that provides a cloud solution.

There are some (like crashplan) that you can install yourself on some platforms if you have some rudimentary linux skills. Also, there are some services that support FTP and RSYNC.

The problem here is that there are lots of cloud solutions, and while they offer similar services they are not compatible at all - and they use custom software that was developed for a Mac or Windows PC. So a single update won't do the trick. Over time, these services will consolidate and standardize - then it will be easier for both manufacturers and consumers.

I could see a want for Google Drive. Comparing a 100GB storage size, GDrive is $4.99 a month. Compare that to $34.95 a month for Vault!

If you could create a Windows VM on the NAS that could access all the shares, then that would potentially enable most of these cloud services.

Excelsior's NAS is a NV+ (v1). No way you're going to run a VM on that.

While the core ReadyNAS Vault plans are built for business and consequently a bit pricey by individual standards, there are (as of relatively recently) a suite of Personal Plans that are priced much more economically for individual users. For example, the starting plan is 100 GB for $9.95/month or $99.95/year with additional storage available at slightly reduced pricing per GB. If price is the only factor, you can find cheaper solutions, but given the the ReadyNAS Vault is already built-in to most ReadyNAS units and has been optimized for the NAS platform, the Personal Plans can be very attractive.

You can upgrade from the promotional accounts on your own or just ask the support@vault.readynas.com squad to do it for you. A sneak peek at the full suite of Personal offerings can be found at the cloudr site...

Those prices are more in line. It would be nice if there was a link between the Enterprise and Home sites/prices. Looking at the Vault site, there is no clear reference to the other price plans for Home use.
