My nas is now working normally after many alterations etc.. non of which I can say exactly was the culprit but the problems fixed, one may have been- Shares/(Problem share) File access/ Reset/ reset permissions. It was deffinatly a nas problem not Win/Mac.
This problem has shown it head a few times in the past 4 years but was fixed by formatting or deleating all backup files on the destination drives & making a new backup for those files.
So now when i do a backup to win/pc & Mac only takes a very short while & no "Copy File" in the Log file is incrumental, & everything is back to normal. I'm sorry for not being literate on this as i'm 80yo & grey matter is failing to remember as time goes on. thanks everyone for assistance.

I'm a bit puzzled by the "copy file" name in the title. Are you saying that the file name on the Mac doesn't match the file name on the original? If so, did this happen when you started over - that is, where the file names incorrect on the Mac after you ran the first backup after the resets?
Did you confirm that the file dates and file sizes match on the two systems?
I'm wondering if something changed on the Mac or the NAS - OS update on the Mac, or a firmware update on the NAS???

Hi, thanks for reply, i'm not real good at this & hopefully I can explain it for you to be able to understand.
The backup from RN422 to Macbook or Windows machines works, & files are the same name on both, (no copy file in the name), only in the backup "log" at completion has 'copy file' infront of the file name, the 'copy files' are the same files on both machines & dont have "Copy File" in front the name. It's just that when the log shows Copy File xxxxx the next time i do a backup it is not an incremental backup & does a full backup everytime & continues to do so. Seems like the RN422 files have something in them to trigger the copy file Log name.It doesnt happen when RN to RN (Rsync) backup up is used so only when the backup is from Nas to mac or Nas to windows pc. In the past deleting all the files from the destination drive (mac or windows) has fixed the "Copy File" problem & then incremental backup returns to work as normal. But that is no longer happening.

The Macbook & the Windows pc destinations drives have been formatted
Macbook factory reset
Nas has been Factory reset
Windows PC changed & clean install
Files are normal after backup & only LOG FILE has copyin name
but then backups are no longer incremental

Not sure what is going on, but it would be useful to check the file properties on both the NAS and the Mac - in particular, see if the file date is exactly the same. If the dates don't exactly match, then every file will be copied.
You might also look into switching to a backup tool that runs on the PCs - for instance FreeFileSync. That might not have the issue.

It simply appears to me to be saying Copy File 9-1-1 is the name of the folder in which the file exists on the NAS. Is that correct?
I'm not entirely sure what you are trying to do with the incremental backup. If you delete all files in the destination, that's going to force a complete backup, not an incremental one. If the Copy File 9-1-1/ is always a different name, then it's copying from a different folder each time, and that probably explains why you're not getting an incremental backup. The date on the files are all newer than the previous ones, though they may have different content. So, I'd look at how the files are getting to the NAS and into a new folder, not how that new folder's content is being copied to the Macbook.

Sorry for delayed answer. It's working normally now but i did check all file sizes are the same mac/pc
My problem starts when the backup occurs & it takes over an hour & the backup "Log file" says 'copy file' at the beginning of each file, this & following backups are FULL backup (not incrumental).
So the only fix was to format mac/pc destination drive/s, then on the nas delete the b/u setting it & make new Backup & re-run, that fixed the problem in the past....until now... 'I think' that one of my many changes, fixed the problem, & it was b/u from a 2nd nas to USB ssd Rsync, factory main nas & restore the files from USB SSD then b/u is normal after first full b/u & is Incremental. Thanks for all the help in this matter my Backups now only take minutes & are automated without any problems.
