Can I add different disks to ReadyNAS 104? How to do it right?
I currently have two 3 TB Toshiba HDDs (model HDKPC08, 7200RPM) configured as X-RAID (RAID 1). Can I add two 3 TB WD Red HDDs (model WD30EFRXSP, 5400 RPM) to the NAS or will it cause problems (in pa...

You can mix/match vendors and speeds. It is important that the added drives be at least as large as the biggest drive already installed (which is the case for you).

Generally not. If the drives are formatted, then you will need to use the format function in the web ui before it will add them (or just zero the drives with Lifeguard's quick write test before inserting them in the NAS). I always recommend hot-insertion. While you can insert both at once, the system will process them one at a time anyway - so I also recommend adding one, then waiting for expansion to complete, then adding the second.
If it doesn't expand and restore redundancy, then post back here. (Let us know how it goes either way, it's also nice to hear about successes!).
