Can the RN314 have multiple USB 3.0 Drives on back ports?

I just purchased a WDC Red 4 TB HDD and put it into an OWC Mercury Elite Pro 3.0 USB Enclosure. I removed my UPS cable from the lower rear USB 3.0 port on my RN 314. I left the Seagate 2 TB 2.0 HDD in its enclosure on the top port. I want to migrate my data from the upper to the lower. However, the 4 TB is not recognized. (I am running 6.0.2.)

So, I formated it GPT on a W7 64 bit machine and re-connected. Still no luck. Nothing displays on the panel. ReadyCloud still only displays the 2 TB connected to the top port.

What should I do? Does the RN314 support more than one external USB HDD on the back? I see no mention of this.

I meant RN314!!!!!!!!

    Do the USB3 drives have their own power supplies or are they bus powered?

    If you download the logs, what is the date in bios_ver.log ?
  • (Note, I meant RN314) Both have their own power supplies. Last time I downloaded the logs (a month ago), the BIOS Version was 4.6.5. As I mentioned in error above, the firmware is 6.2.0.

    Should I be able to do what I would like to do? I can always dismount the top, and I assume plug in the 3.0 to the top port and copy from my MAC, as that is how I did it last time.
  • Why doesn't it show up? I have the latest BIOS. Nary a hint as to what to do.

    Are you really running 6.0.2? There are a lot of fixes since then, perhaps begin by updating to 6.2.0
  • I did try to correct my error on the 8:44AM post. Yes, I am running 6.2.0.

    Does the RN314 support two external USB drives in the 2 3.0 rear ports? If so, why aren't they seen?

    You should be able to connect both drives.

    Can you send me your logs?
  • Well I botched sending the logs. Then, I noticed that the USB cable needed to be inserted just a wee bit more, as it was quite tight. Then, ReadyCloud recognized that an external storage device had been connected. Hurrah! My joy was short-lived however. I then got a message that "... but the filesystem is not recognized".

    I went to Shares, and it was there as USB_HDD_4 (for some reason, the other one has both 2 and 3, with 3 being quite small). There was no Format option on the share, only browse, eject and settings. In settings, only SMD was selected, so I turned on the same ones that are on the other one. Now, I am still waiting as the spinning icon does its thing (Yosemite). Hitting the Power button on the front panel just reveals the free space.

    Opening another ReadyCloud session just says that the device is offline. The good news is that Finder sees it, and I can create a Folder at its root, and copy a file from one of the NAS's "real" shares to it.

    The bad news, is that the spinning has stopped, it just appears to be frozen. This is ten minutes now. I don't see any indication of activity on the RN314.

    Time to panic?

    I panicked and went to another computer and used Chrome to log on. There, I attempted to format as NTFS, but it then said that "the device is busy, try again later". Gotta go to work soon.

    Any ideas?

    Nah, I screwed up really bad. Formatted the top drive. Gone. Was my backup. Archive. It's all gone. No snapshots to restore from.

    Bummer. I thought the top drive was a 2TB Hitachi. Turns out it also was a 4TB WDC, and the Format page did not give me enough information to notice the difference (it is there). So, I have the 2 TB backup from November I will resume with. Not as bad as I thought. I do hope that the new one formats correctly. Will see this evening.
