Cannot access files in shares over NFS

I have the EVA9150 and the NTV550, which are similar in some ways. They support SMB (samba) and NFS, and you get all features with both.
The PCH also appears to work that way (for instance page 26 of the C-300 user manual here: file:///C:/Users/admin/Downloads/PopcornHour_C-300_UserManual.pdf).
With the EVA/NTV products there was a slight performance gain with NFS, but that was the only benefit.
