To get the files back, look for the newest snapshot that shows your all your files (in recovery browse mode) and choose "rollback" for that snapshot.
The most likely cause for the loss is that either someone (or someone's computer) with access deleted the data. A NAS bug is possible I guess, but I haven't seen this happen with my RN102, and I haven't seen it reported by any other users.
BTW, you should have a backup strategy for your data. One of the benefits of consolidating storage onto the NAS is that you can back the data up more efficiently.
