Cannot see "home" folder in Windows Explorer

Note that home folders are locked down to the particular user that is connecting. So if your wife has a user called User1 and you have a user called User2, you will not be able to see her homefolder when you are connecting as User2.
For stuff that you both need to access I'd recommend that you set up a normal share rather than using a home share.
If the NAS is within 90 days of purchase you can reach out to the netgear support team over phone, chat or online ticket to have someone quickly show you over teamviewer how to set things up.

Well that makes sense now. So based on this, would I be wrong in assuming that I could connect to the folder through her computer via LAN? By this I mean could I access the folder by connecting to her computer via "My Computer->Network->Wife MAC->...and then.." or is the folder literally only able to be accessed through her MAC and by no other work around? The thing is that the drive is already full to near capacity so nothing new can be added to it (as far as our purposes go) so would setting up a normal share on the same drive then allow me to access it via my PC? or am I about too many clicks away from the bullseye here? Thanks.

There's no other workaround aside from using her login details on your PC. Her home folder or let's call it 'Private home share', will be only available and can only be accessed on a specific PC /or MAC where she's logged into.
