You are running into a windows restriction. Somehow you already have a connection to the NAS (perhaps a mapped drive). Likely that uses your PC logon.
When you connect to the locked-down NAS share that logon is rejected, so you get the password prompt. But since Windows can't maintain two logons to the same resource, you get the multiple connections error.
However, Windows doesn't know that the \\nas and \\ipaddress are the same resource, so you don't get the error in that case.
You can probably avoid this by going into the Windows Credentials Manager (control panel) and entering the NAS username\password for the NAS.
