Can't create backup job involving USB drive on 6.2.3/6.2.4

I am not sure if the USB drives are safely being unmounted as this NAS is one of my clients and as far as I know they have just unplugged them and swapped the drives daily on the previous NAS which was a Duo for the past 3 yrs with out an issue?
