Can't get USB 3.0 speed out of Pro 6
I'm running a ReadyNAS Pro 6 version 4.2.23. I have 2 USB 3.0 drives both externally powered. I have formatted both as EXT3. When I plug them in to any of the 3 ports, it shows a speed of 480 under Volumes/USB Drives. I have tried booting with them plugged in, plugging them in after booting, both drives in each port, both drives at once, nothing speed always 480.
Any ideas on what to do? I didn't think this would require new firmware, so I haven't gone there yet. One of the drives is an WD Mybook 6TB, and the other a Samsung 3TB.
Is it possible the unit is defective? Did early models not support USB 3.0? At a loss here...
Any help?

- ReadySECUREApprenticeCan you try upgrading to 4.2.27 and confirming that?
- GRS1TutorThat was the second thing on my list to do if I didn't a suggestion of something to try first. This is a home system, but I do manage racks worth of equipment along with a disaster recovery professionally. Reflashing is never my first go to, but often is the ultimate solution. By nature of what I do, I'm risk averse!
Thanks for the input. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe Pro 6 doesn't have any USB3 ports.
Of our legacy models. The Ultra 2/Ultra 2 Plus/Pro 2 and the Duo/NV+ v2 have USB3 ports. You can see the distinctive blue colour in the USB3 ports.
The U2/U2P/Pro 2 have the port on the front. The Duo/NV+ v2 have two USB3 ports on the rear.
Our current models have USB3 ports on the rear as well as eSATA. We do use a different filesystem in the new models so purchasing new disks and transferring your data across your network would be recommended if you decide to get one of these.
The 516 has a dual-core Ivy Bridge CPU and 4GB RAM and the 716x has a quad-core CPU and 16GB RAM. The 716x also has two 10GBase-T ports.
With the Pro 6 you should find NAS to NAS backups outperform backups to USB, provided the other NAS is also a fast one. - GRS1TutorThat would certinly explain it.
There is conflicting information out on the internet. Several reviews claim the back ports are USB 3 on the pro 6, or I misread the reviews. You cant always trust the interweb. - GRS1TutorThere is always glass is half full. USB 2.0 on the Pro 6 feels like USB 4.0 when compared to backups on USB 2.0 on the ReadyNAS 600!
