Ok I have identified the problem and it actually has nothing to do with the NAS at all. Interestingly enough the DNS server malfunctioned somehow and did not resolve the names correctly to the IP adresses. This caused the name of the NAS to be translated into an IP that didn't exist or was wrong. I have no idea what caused this and I am still investigating. It worked fine for a month but all of a sudden decided to do this. I appologize for thinking this was the NAS but it was actually the only thing that didn't work... or so I thought.
