Define file/folder share on NAS with U/P combo from Asus dev

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, and I feel like an idiot, so please give me the benefit of the doubt here that I'm not being lazy. I have an Asus O!Play device, and all I need to do is to define a folder share on the ReadyNAS Pro2, so that the Asus device can use a username and password authenticated to the ReadyNAS, and then the ReadyNAS drops the Asus into a folder on the NAS. I don't seem to be able to figure this out, and I feel there must be a way to do this. Thank you very much.

Thx. I asked about readydlna, because many people actually don't know if they are getting their media directly from the shares, or if they are using DLNA. DLNA works very differently.

Unfortunately the folder needs to be a share to get the navigation you want.

This is also true with Windows btw. If you copied the NAS share over to Windows and shared its root directory, you'd get the same navigation problem.

Anyway, to get the behavior you want you will need to create a new share, and then move the files into it. The fastest way to do the move is to access the C volume of the NAS (using the NAS admin login), and then move the data - preferably from within the same window . Other methods will copy the files (often over the network).

This is not as flexible as it could be - it would be nice if you could share a subfolder (as well as the root share). But I know of no way to do that through Frontview. Though I found I could make it work out ok, once I put some thought into what folders I wanted at the top. I decided not to put everything in a "media" share, instead I created shares like "Movies", "TV", "HD-Movies", "Music", "Photos".

BTW, I don't have O!Play, but I do have several similar media players, including WD Live, EVA9150, and NTV550.

No, not via FrontView, though that sounds like a good feature reguest. You can use SSH or Xplorer to modify Shares.conf or create a new .conf file in addons that adds an alias to the sub-folder. Advantage of doing it in a new .conf is that other changes Frontview makes to Shares.conf won't un-do your edits. Disadvantage is they won't be cleared out by a OS re-install (so you better be sure you've got them right).
