Each of the deletion commands is issued across your network. You may find some protocols are more efficient at this than others. Is doing it over CIFS/SMB any quicker.
It would be much faster to e.g. SSH into your NAS and remove the libraries using rm.
You may find performance using iSCSI is much quicker but initiator's are not free for Mac and you need to connect to a target from just one machine at a time.
