There is no such thing as "rooting the nas" When you install "rootssh" addon it just enabled root ssh - it doesnt void your warranty - however if you mess up your nas whilst in rootssh then it does void your warranty - if you brick the NAS some things to try OS reinstall - always have a backup and Factory Default will definatly fix it (if you didnt cause hardware damage). RootSSH addon requires a reboot and you will be good to go, you will log in to the NAS with your admin password but the username will simply be root.
