Something on the network must be triggering this! I see the following on the secondary device I have on this LAN:
Dec 17 09:15:57 chaos kernel: device eth0 entered promiscuous mode
Dec 17 09:16:02 chaos kernel: device eth0 left promiscuous mode
Dec 22 14:58:26 chaos kernel: device eth0 entered promiscuous mode
They are connected to Cisco small business switch SD108.
No 2nd interface.
No changes have been made.
Both are ReadyNAS Pro 6 running 4.2.28.
I'm just curious as to why this should occur and also what this avahi daemon thing running is. Probably not related.

avahi does Apple discovery (bonjour or rendezvous). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avahi_(software)

Well Bonjour is disabled anyway.

It is a zero-configuration networking tool - and might bundle in some some other services the NAS uses.
Are you using the iTunes server or DLNA?

Nothing like this is enabled on the NAS. It's a business system.
I'm wondering if somebody at the customer site had plugged something into the LAN which has triggered this.
