I just obtained a second replacement drive and inserted it, and am getting precisely the same symptoms. The log says the drive was inserted, and then the log says the drive will be used for rebuild, but all the other displays in front view say the drive is dead, and the front panel shows the drive with a square around it like normal, but simply says "Volume C Degraded." So once again, I have no indicator whatsoever that there is a good drive in the slot and that anything is happening with it.
This is epically frustrating. I seem to remember rebuilds previously (6 months or so ago) giving useful displays letting me know the drive was good and being rebuilt. I took the other replacement and put it in a USB enclosure and examined it and it had three partitions on it, all "healthy", so the ReadyNAS had at least partitioned it.
WTF is going on and how can I confirm that there's either something wrong or that everything's OK? What *should* I be seeing?
