The NAS should be shutdown via Frontview so that services can be turned off properly and in the right order etc. as part of the shutdown process.
Edit: I did suggest "/etc/init.d/reboot" for rebooting before, but then changed my mind and removed it from my post. It seems for chirpa's post below referring to how to simply shutdown that this would work.
