DVD ISO Library
Hi all,
I have found many variants of the wish I have on here but nothing that exactly matches. It would seem to be a very common, straightforward need, but I cannot find a good answer yet, so I'm asking here.
I have recently moved a bunch of my DVD's to ISO format on my ReadyNAS NV+. Now, I want to turn my TV on, change the input to some device that shows me all of the DVD's in my library and, when I pick one, fires it up exactly the same as if I had put a DVD in the DVD player. I want menus, extras, subtitles, language choices, etc., - the identical experience I get now with my physical DVD's, minus the skipping and hassle of changing them out.
I assume I'll need a separate media streaming device (like WD TV or others I've read about here) - can anyone tell me one that enbles this experience? A bonus would be one that connects to Amazon streaming services, but that's not a requirement - serving up the DVD ISO's in a friendly way (ideally with box covers, etc.) is my primary goal.
Any help (or pointers to other threads I may have missed that discuss this)?
Thanks!

- xbmc is one of the few programs that can do exactly that. You would have buy/build an htpc type device or buy one of the compatible devices (possibly having to jailbreak them too).
I'm not familiar with the capabilities of the wdtv or roku type devices, some of them may perhaps support dvd.iso's but may not necessarily have the rich library facilities that xbmc has. - EtzAspirantWDTV Live Hub works this way.
I have all ISO`s on ReadyNAS and play them over SMB share with all the Menus and other stuff.
Dont know exatly about other WD devices, but I know that, at least WDTV Live Hub can do it. - tdavis34AspirantThank you both!!! I was somehow under the impression that XBMC could not do this, but maybe it was just the Raspberry Pi version I was going to make. Also glad to hear WDTV Live Hub does it, too.
- XBMC was one of the first, if not the very first, to support dvd.iso's. I've been using readynas's to store all my ripped dvd iso's for years along with xbmc to play them initially with a modded xbox1 and most currently a jailbroke appletv2.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserThere are many media players that support ISO (including some that support BluRay ISO). NTV550, Dune, PCH, Xtreamer to name a few.
- grimlochAspirantYep, my popcorn hour (c200 I think) supports streaming blu-ray ISOs from my readynas. I use gigabit ethernet, not wifi, though.
Sent from my XT897 using Tapatalk 2 - SootchuckerAspirantI have a Dvico M6600 unit which does exactly what you want, and works beautifully over CIFS or NFS. I think any of the above mentioned units (WD TV Live, Popcorn hour, medi8tor units etc) will do exactly the same and just what you want. My ReadyNas NV+ V2 is currently holding over 500 DVD ISO files as well as about 65 MKV BlueRay rips and it handles them all perfectly.
