Thanks for the info, folks.
Update:
the md device checks are still running and will take a long time to complete.
In the meantime, debugfs is able to read the snapshot I made:
lvcreate -s -L 5G -n /dev/c/c_snap /dev/c/c (from memory - may be off a bit)
debugfs -b 4096 -s 32768 -w /dev/c/c_snap
(the blocksize and superblock location were reported using dumpe2fs output)
with debugfs I can ls, cd, dump and 'rdump'. rdump recursively dumps directories to a destination.
I've connected a USB drive and am currently 'rdump'ing some data. I'll check it out and see if it appears to be intact.
I'm considering rebuilding this device after this experience to have more confidence in the system's stability. I might also consider replacing that one 1TB drive with the same 2TB WD RED to have everything matching and, I assume, have only one pv extent used for the lv volume. Perhaps this would make it a bit more simple to operate?
Does anyone have any suggestions about changes to make? Any additional information about the unit can certainly be provided!
Thanks again, folks
