Exclusion of Recycle Bin from rsync Backup

Hi there,
I try to exclude the "Recycle Bin" from being included in our rsync backup. We use OS 6.1.4 on a 316 Device. The problem seems to be the blank character, at least the GUI will not except it. I searched on the forum and it seems to be a long lasting problem, but I could not find a solution for it. Only typing "Recycle" does not do any good, the folder will still be backuped.

Any idea how to do the task would be appreciated.

Greetings
Toby

To include a blank character in a filename, "escape" it by preceding it with a "\" character:
    Recycle\ Bin
  • I already tried this, but this is not working. I can type in "Recycle" but that does not exclude the folder Recycle Bin while syncing. As soon as I try to type anything else after the Recycle I am not able to add it to the exclusion list.
  • On my Pro Pioneer and Ultra 2 Plus, the escape character is not neccessary; my exclusion list is simply this:
    Recycle Bin/

I wish I could offer specific help for OS6, but I only use OS4.
  • Later on the problem will eliminated, because then I will push data from the 316 to the Ultra6 and there is no Recycle Bin anymore using OS6. So I just will have to exclude the snapshot folder which fortunatly has no blank character in it :)

Still it would be nice to know how someone could do this using OS6. For now I will switch the rsync so that the Ultra6 pushes the data rather than the 316 pulles it.
  • Hi there, I switched to the 316 as our main NAS. From that time on, I pulled the backup using the Ultra6 and got no problems with that. Just excluded the "snapshot".

But thanks for letting me know, I will check with an external USB drive.
