File level backup with Windows 2008 R2?
Hi guys!
When trying to backup data from a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine to a ReadyNAS Duo I get an error message like: "The version does not support this version of the file format". The problem is discussed in this article:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/asiasupp/archive/2010/11/03/windows-server-backup-failed-with-error-quot-the-version-does-not-support-this-version-of-the-file-format-quot.aspx
There is only a solution for Linux Samba server, so I was wondering if it was possible to backup data on file level to the NAS. Like described in the article volume level backup is working. For info - I am using the Windows backup tool.
THX

- ewokNETGEAR ExpertThe NAS is running Samba, but you would need to ssh in and manually edit the config file to add that option.
- BorjoyzeeAspirantThanks for the info. I have some very basic knowledge of Linux and Samba, but how do I get to a console? I often use Putty to establish a SSH connection to a Debian firewall but what port do I connect to the NAS? I tried SSH with port 22 on the IP adress of the NAS and get a connection refused.
- ewokNETGEAR ExpertYou would need to install the EnableRootSSH addon, but it may have an effect on your software warranty (basically if you break it, you fix it :) ). This is available with the rest of the addons on readynas.com.
