File/Folder Permission Issue - Intermitant
Hi All,
We've had a ReadyNAS NV+ V2 for almost 2 months now (on latest firmware etc) and it's been running perfectly.
Over the last 2-3 weeks, we have noticed that some users are having issues accessing some folders with 'Access Denied'. I have to manually go into the GUI and Reset permissions for every share, which take times and quite annoying.
Can someone possibly give me a work around to this, or guide me to an easy solution?
If you need any more information, please let me know.
Cheers,
Jake

- JakeBloomfieldAspirantAny ideas guys?
Cheers,
Jake - mike_naylorAspirantI have a ReadyNAS 1500 that is doing something very similar. Went through about a month ago and reset all the permissions at the top-level share in the CIFS configuration and waited for it to propagate down. After this finished the users were back in and happy, no error messages. When I reset those permissions I also checked the "Do not allow ACL changes to be more restrictive than this" under "Automatically set permissions on new files and folders" assuming this would set permissions on new files and folders created or moved there to default to Read/Write. I'm now receiving reports again of "access denied" and some files do not have permissions for any user when I check security from the Windows Explorer. I've turned on guest access and set default access to Read/Write. Any ideas would be very helpful. Here are the specs on the NAS:
Model: ReadyNAS 1500 v1 [X-RAID2]
Firmware: RAIDiator 4.2.19 - JakeBloomfieldAspirantExactly the same issue!
- mike_naylorAspirant... Also having issues with Office documents (Word and Excel) leaving the temp files and saying that they are still "in-use" after a user has opened the document, saved and closed it....

..and again.. the exact same issue! These files also mimic the file size, so it's taking up space. It says most time's it's in use by 'another user'.
Any ideas please? - mike_naylorAspirantJake,
Just out of curiosity are you using domain groups on your NAS for security? I just noticed that in the groups management on mine that the 'domain users' group which is auto-populated in Active Directory with all users was blank on the NAS. Just tried switching the share folder group to another group I created and manually added users to. We'll see if this was the issue. Strange that the domain users group was empty. May explain why users were getting "access denied" if it didn't see their username in the group the share was assigned to. - JakeBloomfieldAspirant

No, Domain Groups aren't being used, just the standard groups I created to use with CIFS. - mike_naylorAspirantGotcha,
I just changed it over to a different AD group and refreshed all the permissions, so far so good. If you're having the same troubles with built in groups it does make me feel better about the issue not being related to my domain.... :D
Stay tuned as the story unfolds.... - JakeBloomfieldAspirant

Thanks for the update Mike - I'll keep an eye on mine! Any advice from anyone else :) ? - mike_naylorAspirantWell, so far so good. Still odd that the propagation did not work correctly. New folders had completely different security than the defaults set on the root level share. Anyone have any ideas on this? Any info would be appreciated.
