On the x86 firmware the FTP/S tab has its own "Automatically set permissions on new files and folders" checkbox. Regrettably the Sparc firmware does not. You might submit a feature request.

I can view the pictures once uploaded via several different windows XP/Windows 7 computers that are directly connected to the NAS, however, other users logging in to their accounts from the same computers cannot view the pictures. I can get the other users access by going into the CIFS permissions, Advanced Options tab, and applying the "Set ownership and permission for existing files and folders in this share to the above settings..." but this is a pain.
This appears to be an issue in my understanding of the file privileges applied by the FTP protocol when creating a file - only the "creating" user seems to have access.
Any help would be greatly appreciated in allowing other access to the files once uploaded. The FTP permissions don't have the same options as CIFS to "Automatically set permissions on new files and folders."
