Folder missing from backup share using windows 7
Hello
Apologies if this is the wrong topic
I have a readynas nv+ with the default shares, media and backup, and the default access for everyone.
I had already created 2 sub-folders under the backup share from win7 on my office pc and used these for months with no issues.
I needed to carry out some work on another pc so I created a third sub-folder under the backup share, again using win7 from the alternate pc. I used robocopy to copy 500g from the pc to the nas with no issues and the data could be seen in win7 using the mapped backup share.
I carried out the work on the pc but once rebooted the mapped backup share now only shows the original 2 sub-folders and the new one is missing!
However, if I right click properties on the mapped share in win7 it shows a disk usage relevant to the 500g I copied onto it. Also, if I look at the space used figure for the backup share in frontview it again shows a figure relevant to the 2 original folders plus the new folder of 500g.
At this stage it seems the data is on the nas but not accessible via windows.
Is this a permissions issue?
Can I use some alternate tool such as winscp or FTP to access the nas and look for data?
Thanks
UPDATE
installed ssh on readynas using well published add-on. Then used winscp to gain access directly to the files on the nas and copy them off.

- ewokNETGEAR ExpertSo the data from the third subfolder is visible over ssh but not over CIFS? Is either PC able to see the third subfolder?
- Jbravo970AspirantExactly. Neither pc can see the folder. I used putty in the end to mv the contents of the folder to a folder that was visible to windows and then used robocopy to get the files back onto pc.
- ewokNETGEAR ExpertThat's strange, I don't know why Windows would not be able to see that folder. My only guess would be that it's a permissions problem or the folder contains characters Windows does not like.
- Jbravo970Aspirantvery strange! it didn't appear to have odd characters in the folder name. what's really wierd is that the folder was created using Windows and had stuff copied to it using Windows but the folder seemed to disappear from Windows after the pc was rebooted.
- sphardy1ApprenticeCould you share the name of the problem folder - so the issue might be reproduced?
- Jbravo970AspirantShare the folder? In windows or the nas?
- sphardy1ApprenticeWhat was the name of the folder that disappeared?
