FW 4.2.20 does not work with OS X?
HEELLLPPPP!!!! I need to upgrade to Mac OS X Lion to use iCloud, but my ReadyNAS does not work with AFP, even on firmware 4.2.20!!!
I was hoping to get my ReadyNAS to work with OS X Lion (10.7) again, but I am having problems and am wondering if someone who has experienced the same issues below knows how to fix them.
I have a ReadyNAS Pro Business Edition that had 4.2.17 on it. A few months ago, I upgraded to 4.2.19, but found out there were file permission issues with 4.2.19 (and from what I read on this forum, it was not only me), so I downgraded to 4.2.17, which works fine with Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6)... even Time Machine works fine.
As Apple users will know, Apple is forcing everyone to upgrade to Lion in order to be able to use iCloud as it is killing MobileMe (at the end of June!!!) and iCloud does not work with Snow Leopard. I upgraded one of the Macs in the house (we have 3) to Lion and found out that Lion no longer can use the Time Machine feature on ReadyNAS, at least with firmware 4.2.17. I read that upgrading the firmware to 4.2.20 would FIX this, but it seems Time Machine not only does NOT work, but 4.2.20 also killed the file permissions in a way that my Macs, both Snow Leopard and Lion, no longer have any rights to the folders or files. The only permissions Mac OS sees are:
user avahi with "Read Only", and
Everyone with "Read Only" as well.
I believe "avahi" is the name of the Mac OS X Bonjour service.
*** What happened to the users and groups I had? :x
Has anyone run into this issue and how was it addressed?

- Dewdman42VirtuosoThere are some known Lion AFP issues, though I am not sure what they are, google around. Myself I upgraded to Lion for iCloud and then after a few frustrating weeks went back to Snow Leopard. Apple screwed up Lion entirely. I can live without iCloud for now.
- chirpaLuminaryI use Lion fine with 4.2.20. Have you tried using the Advanced Options tab under the Share Listing in FrontView to reset permissions?

I checked the check box forSet ownership and permission for existing files and folders in this share to the above settings. This option is useful in cases where you are changing security levels and need to workaround file access problems.
and applied, but with no real changes. in Mac OS I still see "avahi" as the user and Everyone; no group at all. Mac OS does not know what to do with this and does not allow me to do anything with the files.
@chirpa: I am wondering why it works for you. Did you build the ReadyNAS filesystem after you upgraded to 4.2.20?
