Genie Apps on new readynas 104 not installing?

Hi,
I bought a new Readynas 104 as soon as it became available, and am trying to install apps from the genie marketplace. The service is enabled, and I created an account on the website and logged in on the nas admin page.

I am presented with a list of apps. Now, if I click 'Buy' on an app like SABnzbd, it just sits there saying it is being installed and never completes. This happens for all apps.

Why does the link say Buy but not give you a price or ask you for any payment info? Am I doing something wrong?

Also the Genie marketplace website has not been updated to include the new 104 so it says I have no apps available there.

Can I purchase an app from somewhere like ReadynasXtras like I could on the Duo and install via the update function still? How does this work?

This new readynas range seems very rushed out, there are parts which obviously have not been updated to accommodate it!

Yes, the server was down because they were deploying a new build to fix the "app uninstalling itself issue". Please try again later.

Is this definitely fixed the apps page on my box still hangs and I cannot access apps still?

What did you discover is the problem?
  • I don't have Genie on a NAS to try via that interface, but just going directly to genie.netgear.com, It seems to eventually load here, but very very slow.
  • <<very, very slow>>

Maybe they're running it on a ReadyNAS??? Sorry, couldn't resist :-)
  • uploaded the transmission thru install firmware path. when i launch the transmission it requires username and password and it never works. anyone has this problem?
  • It is admin/admin . That caught me as well as its different to other transmission releases i've used.
  • For users having trouble installing apps on their ReadyNAS 6 device:

Was having a lot of trouble installing apps on my 102 - kept getting the "Could not download {App Name}" error . Did manage to install QBittorrent (via the .deb file) from Super-Poussin's Dropbox link, though. Was also contemplating contacting Netgear tech support but wasn't too hopeful after my previous, rather horrendous, experience with them (it almost seemed that the email tech was actually a text parsing bot).

Now, looking at the links posted by chirpa (thanks!) earlier in this thread, have realised it's possible to download and install the latest versions of apps for your OS release number without dealing with the rather buggy web GUI. So, for anyone else still having trouble installing apps on their ReadyNAS 6 /R6 /OS6 device, here's what worked for me:

    1. Get the list of apps by downloading
    http://www.readynas.com/packages/readynasos/dists/6.0.8/apps/binary-armel/Packages.gz

(Replace the 6.0.8 in the link with the version you're on)

    2. Grep for package (as chirpa explains earlier in this thread - sorry, I'm not a command line wiz) . Or just open the file in WinRAR/7zip/WinZip and load the Packages file you'll find inside into Notepad. Then search for 'Package'. Alternatively, search for the app you want.

    3. The search will cycle through all the apps available for your OS release version - I wanted Plex so that's what I searched for - You'll find a 'Filename' entry in the next line - something like
    dists/6.0.8/apps/pool/plex/plexmediaserver-ros6-binaries_0.9.7.28.0-d1f35c1-netgear2_armel.deb

    4. Copy this and paste it after
    http://apt.readynas.com/packages/readynasos/
    to get the download link:
    http://apt.readynas.com/packages/readynasos/dists/6.0.8/apps/pool/plex/plexmediaserver-ros6-binaries_0.9.7.28.0-d1f35c1-netgear2_armel.deb

    5. Download the file; upload and install in the Apps section on the ReadyNAS web interface.

That's it - managed to install Plex on my 102 using this method. Of course, YMMV; I'm not too sure how safe installing apps like this is, so do so at your own risk.
