Getting bloomin started - USB HDD Copying
Nevermind running, I need to learn to crawl before I can walk here!
I bought the ReadyNAS Duo as I have three different USB HDD kicking about with files all over the place. I've been using these to store films/tv shows on and then plug into the Sony Bluray player which spits out avi and mkv no problem. It was an inelegant solution requiring HDD's to be cluttering up the place and unplugged every time there was a new show to put on.
The ReadyNAS is sitting in the hallway and I have just jailbroken an Apple TV2 to stream to in the living room. I want everything to be nice and tidy on the Duo, so I don't want to start copying things over from the USB HDD's willy nilly. I have a few test files on it already to test theh ATV2 and they steam fine, I hope some of you can point me in the right direction for these noob requests;
1 - Arrangement of folders
As mentioned I mainly want to use this for streaming Movies, TV Shows and Music to other devices. Does it matter where I set up the seperate folders 'Movies' TV Shows' and 'Music'? There was a 'Media' folder already present on the NAS - sounds like a daft question but is it best to set all these folders up within this folder or can I just pop them on the top root where the 'C' and 'USB flash' are found - is there any benefit to either option?
2 - Copying
The USB HDD's are generally organised with folders seperated into Movies, TV Shows, Music, Software, Photos. They also contain GB upon GB of crap and doubles of stuff from when I was untidy with my files. I need to go through these to sort out the stuff to keep etc but in some cases these are 30GB+ amounts that I don't want to waste time copying over to the Duo. My first USB HDD has 80GB of movies but has 249GB in total on it of other files. What is the quickest way to select only the Movies folder from the USB HDD and copy it into the Duo?
I have tried a trial of setting the Duo to auto backup the USB when found, and sent it to the 'backup' share. It did 11GB of music fairly quickly however when I went to move this music from the 'backup' share into the 'music' share folder it came up with almost 16 hours predicted time, I read somewhere on here that this method would be copying from the Duo to the PC and back to the Duo using this method?! Am I being daft here?

Which USB slot is best for connecting my USB HDD to when copying the files over? Is there a difference between the one on the front and the two on the back?
I've tried to read up on this but everytime I think I'm getting somewhere the topic I'm reading seems slightly different to what I'm trying to learn. I thought that putting XBMC on the Apple TV2 was going to be the hard bit here but I'm struggling completely with getting to grips with this Duo! Once my files are over on it things will be more straight forwards but I can't get my content from the USB HDDs right now.
Any advice/mickey taking is welcomed!

You probably want to put the files in a share, media or otherwise, your choice. C is only available to the admin user, and you most likely don't want your devices accessing the NAS using the admin account. Anything that you want to share over the network should be in a share.dirtydarthdub wrote:

Use the backup manager to copy files to the ReadyNAS. Connect your USB drive to the NAS, select it as the backup source, enter the folder path with your movies in the source path field, and select your target share on the NAS. Run said backup job.dirtydarthdub wrote:

The hardware is the same for each port. I'd suggest using the front USB port because you can unmount the device attached to the front port by holding the backup button down for five seconds. Make sure you enable Fast USB Writes in the performance page.
