[HEADACHE]How does rsync do full backup???

In READYNAS USER GUIDE, I find that rsync can do full backup every 3 weeks, according to your rsync job.

I know that rsync does full backup the first time it sync files.

But how does it do full backup when i specify it to do full backup??? The trick is the --whole-file parameter ?!

rsync --whole-file: This tells rsync to transfer entire files instead of using its block level comparison system. If you have a nice fast link (like a LAN) this can make things faster since rsync doesn't have to checksum files at all but if you are transferring across the internet you don't want this.

--whole-file tells rsync how to copy, it does not tell it what to copy.

If you want to do a full backup (e.g., copy everything) then you need -I. http://rsync.samba.org/ftp/rsync/rsync.html

    Thanks! That's what I need!
