How can VMware help me?

I know this is going to open a major can of worms, but I guess I'll post anyway.
I have a Pro 6, with a self installed 8GB Ram. I am running 4.2.21

I have always been curious of what I could do with VMWare, but to be honest I have no idea.

As I understand I could run a virtual box within my box and connect via Remote Desktop or something like this. I wouldn't mind having this capability to test Win8 or have some kind of production machine I can access remotely.

Can anyone point me to a how-to, or faq on what I can do?
This site appears to explain an old install method: http://blog.olbrecht.net/2009/06/08/how ... dynas-pro/
Is that still valid on 4.2.21 with ESXi 5?

Again I am in the dark here, but as a tinkerer I like to try new ideas and learn about new things.

Thanks.

  • You can't use ESXi on the ReadyNAS. You could only use VMware Server or VirtualBox.

Would have to be a type 2 hypervisor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypervisor

If you are not familiar with SSH and compiling, I'd stay away from trying it, can be messy.
