VMware with M4300 only 1gb speed

vSphere 6.0 u2

M4300-12X12F (XSM4324S) with 12.0.2.6 firmware

Broadcom Qlogic 57810 10gb Adapter

Netgear Twinax cable

Both the switch and the ESXi hosts show 10gb full duplex.

Doing tests with vMotion on a single nic I'm only getting 1gb transfer speed when using the switch. Remove the switch and direct connecting two hosts I'm able to get 10gb speeds. If there anything on the switch that needs to be configured to utilize the full link speed?

The Netgear ACX761 cables are being used.

I've patched all of the hosts last night and this morning I’m getting around 9gb/s on a single nic and 19gb/s with dual nics. Maybe there was an updated bnx2x driver in those patches? Whatever it was it seems to be working correctly now. Thanks for the quick reply.

  • Are you using Netgear AXC761 or AXC763 cables or different brand DAC cable for link from BCRM Qlogic 57810 SFP+ card to Switch.

Also, can you check for dropped frames on vmserver when you see the poor performance, I think this maybe a issue on BCRM NIC as I have seen another customer before where using BCRM NIC to BCRM NIC same model worked fine but going through switch resulted in large dropped frame rate leading to poor performance.  They did not see problem when 1 side was BCRM and other side was Intel NIC going through the switch.

Also, if you could, please open up a support case through the contact us page and then pm me the case number so I can get tech support involved if needed to try to address this behaviour.
