How do I add a remote UPS to a RN204

I have just upgraded my RN102 and RN204 to OS6.5.0... so far so good. The account migration to MyNetgear was very straight forward to. Thanks. :smileyvery-happy:

Anyway, I have now just added an APC UPS to my RN102. It successfully recognised it on a rear USB port - "APC, Model: Back-UPS ES 700G". I want my RN204 to be able to see this UPS too, so I have tried adding a Remote UPS in the power section of the GUI. As prr this URL:

http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/23121/~/how-do-i-add-a-ups-to-my-readynas-os-6-storage-system%3F

I have entered the name as "UPS", entered the IP address, and set the Username to "monuser" and the password to "pass". I have tried this several times, but unfortunately the RN204 fails to connect:

System: Cannot communicate with UPS UPS (APC UPS on ReadyNAS-A).

System: Error communicating with UPS 'UPS' (APC UPS on ReadyNAS-A).

I am out of ideas, and would appreciate any clues.

Kind regards,

Ian

  • As you can see in the image on the NAS you are sharing the UPS from you need to click on the settings wheel under System > Power > UPS and check Enable Network Monitoring of attached UPS. Then you will be able to configure the other NAS to monitor it. Currently as shown it is unchecked.

    Hi ilneill,

Kindly send us the logs so we can check what's wrong. Also, do you have other UPS devices to try?

      Hi BrianL,

I do not have another UPS to try. This APC UPS worked perfectly when shared from one ReadyNAS Duo (v1) to another ReadyNAS Duo (v1). I have now upgraded myself to newer RN102 and RN204 boxes and I assumed the same UPS would be compatible.

Anyway, the UPS is on the RN102 [ReadyNAS-A](and it seems happy with it) and I am trying to add it as a remote UPS to the RN204 [ReadyNAS-B]. Logs for both of the ReadyNAS's sent.

      Kind regards,

      Ian
