How do I keep multiple backups?
I have a newer ReadyNAS 516 (running 6.2.4) and an older ReadyNAS Pro Business (running 4.2.27). I have backup jobs on the 516 that run daily, backing up to the older machine on the same network. ...
Stephen meant upgrading the Pro to OS 6. This is the firmware version running on the ReadyNAS 516. Upgrading a legacy device (Pro) to OS 6 is not supported by NETGEAR and therefore will have to be done manually. There is a wealth of knowledge regarding this here in the forum.
However, if you are content with achieving only two thirds of your task you may not need to upgrade. What about a combination of daily snapshots on your RN516 and a backup job backing up daily from the RN516 to the Pro.
With this you will have:
+The ability to revert to old versions of the files when needed (through snapshots)
+Lose not more than a day worth of work in case of a failing RN516 (daily backup)
What you will not have is:
-The combination of both. In case of a failure you will not be able to revert to an older versions of the files, only to the latest. This you would have with the seven backups or the incremental backup described.

I agree this gets you most of the way there. If the purpose of the daily backups is simply to allow you to revert to older versions of the files, then enabling daily snapshots on the RN516 gets you that very efficiently, and with the least effort.
