Have you setup the network permissions for that share correctly? Under the sharing preferences for the I:\ (or whatever the local drive or folder is) there may be advanced options that you should look at.
It sounds like you haven't configured permissions to allow access to that share from any computer other than the PC it resides on. Or you are connecting as a user that is not allowed access. You can see all shares if logged in as the wrong user (this includes guest access) but you can't access shares that you are not given access to.
