HTTP access and Port Forwarding

I couldn't get port forwarding to work at all, well it seemed. I thought i had all the settings right, and http access worked from inside the network, just not from outside. Normal File sharing and everything worked great inside the network. I banged my head for days trying to figure this out, all signs pointed to my router. Then i logged into my readynas duo frontview and added the correct default gateway address and dns servers(i used googles 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4). My readynas finally worked from outside the network. HTTP access, user login, and everything functions correctly now.

So i offer this info to people having trouble with http access, possibly FTP access.
1. Make sure you use a static address for your readynas under Network-->interface.
2. Make sure you set your default gateway address(your router's IP number) under Network-->Global settings. Also set your DNS, i used googles 8.8.8.8 for DNS1 and 8.8.4.4 for DNS2, i left DNS3 and Domain name server blank.
3. Log into your router and set port 80 to forward to your readynas's IP address. Do the same to port 21 if using FTP, make sure you set the masquarade address as your DYNS or static ISP IP.
4. Under Services-->standard file protocols make sure you have HTTP checked. I have login authentication set to disabled, but have permissions set under the share listing in the next step. It asks for login anyways due to this.
5. Under Shares-->Share Listings i have set it to read only http access on all my shares. underneath i have the checkbox checked next to hosts allowed access. I left hosts and users blank, but under groups allowed access i have set "users" which contains all the people i allow access for read only. You'll obviously need to edit your users group with people and permissions.

That's it, everything works as intended. When i login to my DYDNS address, it pops up with login, i login and can see all my files. I can then download whatever i need.

-on FTP, you DON"T want to set the masquerade to your local lan IP (static or otherwise). Either set it to your dyns name, or leave it out. FileZilla is ok either way (and I think many other clients are also).
-If you want secure HTTP, then don't forward port 80. Instead forward the alternative https port (settable via Frontview on sparc and x86 platforms). You may need to specify this port in the URL (e.g., https://dydnsname:port/
-domain server should certainly be blank if you don't have your own domain server.
-often your DNS address is the same as your gateway address. Not all routers proxy DNS (some simply pass through the ISP DNS servers), but many do.

-on static IP generally, IMHO it is better to use address reservation if your router supports it. In that case, you would use the normal DHCP configuration in the NAS.
