Itunes DVD artwork and NAS 314

The NAS has a built-in linux iTunes server. If you'd left it on, you could have accessed the NAS-hosted itunes library from the iTunes on the Mac. The linux itunes server is reverse-engineered open source, and doesn't support home sharing - which limits its value. But it can be handy if you are playing the music from multiple Macs, and want to have only one iTunes library.
Anyway, it's fine to keep it off.

Two things to try -
(a) can you change some other element in the tag? If you can, then iTunes can write to the ripped mp4.
(b) Does copying the jpg to your Mac, and applying the local copy as the artwork work?
What I did before seeing your reply was to copy all the movie files off the NAS to an external HDD. That allowed me to insert the dvd covers. Then copy them back to the NAS. It's a hack but got the job done.
