No, it's not meant to be empty but that doesn't matter too much as i want to set the NAS up again from scratch. No i don't have a backup of the data but i don't need a backup.

Yes, you have encountered the snapshot upgrade issue.
Is the Backup share meant to be empty?

Hello icuit,
If you do not have important data stored to the disks then best thing to do is factory reset from the boot menu. Disks that you want to use with the NAS should be all inserted when you do the factory reset so the volume will be created out from these disks.
