Maximum memory on Ultra series
What would be the maximum memory supported on Ultra 4?
I am looking to upgrade with Kingston KVR800D2N6/2G . According to some Forum posts this stick is compatible with Pro series.

- PapaBear1ApprenticeBecause of the tendency of memory manufacturers to modify their memory configuration by changing the chips and arrangement, without changing the part number on the modules, Netgear no longer supports memory upgrades. You are basically on your own, but if you try it, be sure to run the memory test on the boot menu several times. (While the article mentions NVX/Pro, the Ultra line basically replaced the NVX and expanded it, and the Pro line is now expanded as well.
Unless you are running some application on the NAS, or have a heavy load of add-ons that do processing, you will find little if any improvement in the file transfer speeds. If you are experiencing file transfer speeds that are not up to your expectations, it may be a network item, a switch or even a cable that is not up to the gigabit standard. The Ultra should come close to fully saturating a gigabit connection in it's stock form.
If you feel that you still want to do it, I would recommend that you power off the Ultra, remove both side panels and top panel and the memory socket (laptop style) is under the top panel. Remove the module and note the make and model of the module and the full specs and CL or timing level. Then see if you can match the module, with the next higher ram level. - dsm1212ApprenticeJust ordered a pro 6 (200 series) and because of addons I'm sure I'll want to add some memory. Nowhere can I find the motherboard model so can anyone tell me if memory sticks have to be in pairs? I think pairs are not required since only one stick is in there now, but maybe I'm missing something. Every message I've found here has removed the one and put in two new ones. 3GB is plenty for me so I'd like to just buy one 2GB stick. Probably this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134636, but I'll wait until I get a look at what is in there in case they rev'd the mobo from what others have here.
steve - PapaBear1ApprenticeMy advice to anyone upgrading the memory of a computing device is to take the memory module that is working and came with the device and match the specs except for size. Pay close attention to the CL/timing value and voltage as well. But, even that is not a guarantee of success as some manufacturers make changes under the hood and don't change the model numbers. You would be well advised to run the memory test several times after changing the memory.
- dsm1212ApprenticeI ordered the 2x4GB patriot memory mentioned elsewhere in the forum and it works fine tested through two passes. Way more memory than I wanted to put in there, but given that several people were using it I decided it wasn't worth trying to find a smaller alternative to save a few bucks.
