Memory Upgrade for ReadyNAS NVX?
Hi Superb forum by the way. Is it possible to upgrade the memory on my ReadyNAS NVX? I currently have 1GB installed from when I purchased it a number of years ago. I would like to run Plex ...

There are no more Plex updates for the NVX. They have discontinued doing updates for it, so I don't think I would throw money upgrading the RAM in it at this stage.
You'd probably be far better off at this point investing in a new ReadyNAS e.g. RN516 or one of our new products i.e. RN526X (just launched) or RN716X (just launched). CPU matters a lot with Plex if you want to transcode. The RN214 may be worth considering if on a tighter budget. The RN214 can transcode some 1080p to a fixed 480p resolution output.

thanks for all the replies guys, highly appreciated.
Theres a quad core 4 bay ReadyNas (NETGEAR RN21400-100NES) on offer at Amazon UK for £280. Would this be sufficient?
I could use my 4 x WD 3TB NAS SATA (3.5") disks in that am sure.

The RN214 will have good performance.

Note that the RN214 will need to wipe the disks so backup your data first. Or you could get new disks for the RN214 and use backup jobs to copy the data across then reverse the source and destination of the backup jobs to use the NVX to hold backups of your data extending the useful life of this older device.
