Migrating disks from DEAD Ultra6+ to my new 516
My Ultr6+ died, but the data on the disks is fine. I purchased a new 516 per support, so that I can migrate the disks from the Ultra6+ (NO BACKUP) to the 516.
I have been trying to get an expert on the online support chat but have been on hold forever and a day :-D
Are there directions somewhere for me to follow to do this migration proceedure? I have searched the forums without luck.
Thank you!!!
Yes. You will need somewhere to copy the data to. If you need 6 more disks to get that much/more space that is what you will need.

The process requires Netgear's help via remote-access. It also requires that you have enough storage to copy the data (it is not in-place).

I purchased an diskless 516, do I need to get 6 more disks with the same or more space?

The data migration requires copying to external disks (or internal disks with adapters, or network drives). So you can use your existing drives, but need enough external capacity to back up the NAS. You should have that anyway (since backups are important).
If the drives in the ultra were old, then perhaps start with new ones. You don't necessarily need 6. That depends on the amount of data you had on the ultra6, and what size drives you purchase.
