Missing NTFS filesystem utils (recover "dirty" ntfs mounts)
Hi,
due to some issue with my readyNAS my Dad had to do a hard restart (unplug the power cord). No I got the issue that one external NTFS hard drive is always mounted as read only, because the dirty bit has been set. My problem is that I'm missing the fsck.ntfs or a similar tool from Paragon (ufsd mount, see http://download.paragon-software.com/doc/Paragon_NTFS-HFS_for_Linux_8.9_User_Manual.pdf) to check / recover the effected NTFS partition. Normaly this would not be a major issue, but I'm currently traveling abroad and thus I cannot simply connect the external drive to a other machine and run a ntfs filesystem check.
I mainly use this exernal drive for a additional weekly backup job of my most important data. I belive that as the readyNAS supports the NTFS filesystem it also should include the required tools to handle any issues which might occure.
The only workaround I currently have is to reformate my disk and run a full backup of all my backup jobs, which I don't really want to do.
While researching this issue I came across the following post in regards to backups and NTFS: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=78825&hilit=ntfs so I think that if I decide to reformat the disk I might just change to EXT4. Though the NAS is primarily used by my parents and they are Windows users and thus I would prefere a backup disk in a filesystem they can easily use if something goes really wrong.
So I hope the readyNAS developers take this as input to add NTFS filesystem utils in a future release of readNAS OS to fully support NTFS and possible issues without having to attach the disk on different machines.
Cheers,
Chris
