NAS with quotas says that share is full when it has a much more space

I asked because it was relevant - if snapshot space was counted against quota, that could potentially explain your issue (especially if there were hidden snapshots - which sometimes happens).
Three ideas you might try:
-turn compression off and see if that makes any difference.
-adjust the the quota up to 500 GB first (as a test) and then try the copy again.
-copy the data from file explorer instead of the web ui.
