Using share quotas to prune old files

Hello, I wanted to know if there is a way to use a share quota to delete old files.

For instance, is it possible to set a 1 TB quota on a share, and have the NAS start deleting files, starting with the oldest files, as the share approaches the quota?

The use case is for an IP camera that does not have the ability to prune its own files, but it is saving to the NAS using FTP. It's getting tiresome to have to go in every month and prune the old files.

Thanks for the help.

  • Hey SuperNASman,

There's no such built in feature but I'd like to point you in the direction of an old post I made in a thread requesting something similar.

First of all please note that incorrect SSH usage may result in rejected support (until you factory default).. The script below is not official and is used at your own risk.

You could modify the script to include an if statement checking if used space > X then go ahead and delete files older than Y, but I'll leave that up to you.
