The RN104 can stream, but not transcode. The lack of transcoding shouldn't be an issue on the local LAN.

In addition to Nhellie's firmware question: What device are you using for playback?

My Firmware is 6.2.2

I am using a 2.2 Ghz Intel Core i7 MacBook Pro to decode. I have used another macbook and my iphone with similar results.

I have followed all the steps on page 173 and still nothing but a spinner.

Services enabled on my NAS:

SMB, AFB, iTunes, ReadyDLNA, UPnP, http and https

iTunes Server Settings:

Enable iTunes Server is checked
Server Name: <my server name>
Password: no password

I really don't know what I can be missing. It seems straight forward in the documentation.

The iphone won't work because it needs "home sharing" to access your library and apple keeps that protocol secret. So the linux development community can't provide that feature in their itunes servers. You can use ReadyDLNA or Plex on the NAS - there are apps for the phone that will play your media using DLNA. AVPlayerHD also works (using FTP) and is perhaps better for video files. But you can't render with the built-in music or video players.

The server is working for me (also running 6.2.2) when I open the library with the Windows iTune (12.0.1) - clicking on the music library icon on the upper left, and selecting the RN102 music library. Are you using the default permissions for the share?

Another option (perhaps ok, given that the itunes server won't connect to your iphone anyway) is to store the media on the NAS, but keep the library itself on your macbooks.

Thanks All. StephenB's comment made me think for a bit about my set-up. At one point, I clicked on the "compress" option. During that time, I must have copied over my test set of music and thus compressed the files. I just made sure that the folder was not "compressed" and I deleted the three files in the folder then I re-added some new files and it works! Essentially, the default iTunes settings work out-of-the-box on the NAS104.

Hi, I'm experiencing similar issues - iTunes can see my iTunes share, but it can't find anything on it. ReadyNAS 102 with 6.2.2, OS X 10.10.2. This actually worked before, and I'm not sure what stopped it - possibly the upgrade to 10.10, but I wouldn't be sure.

I've read the manual (which is out of date, by the way, the iTunes server setup doesn't look like that any more), restarted everything several times, and searched for uPnP and DLNA errors in the logs. The share containing the music has SMB, DLNA and iTunes enabled. DLNA has *never* worked at all.

Anything else I can try?

Apple changed iTunes to make it incompatible (I think in 12.1). You can try the 6.2.3 beta.

Sorry, I missed that info. VLC. I'd take recommendations for another client though!

I haven't tried using VLC as a DLNA client, though I have seen old reports on their forums that it suggested it didn't work that well.

On a Mac (or PC) you're better off using afp or smb sharing I think.

Well, maintaining support for reverse-engineered open-source iTunes servers is not high on Apple's list.

Though it hasn't happened very often. The big issue is the lack of home-sharing support, which cripples use with iPads, iPhones and Apple TV.
