Need help selecting backup/RN features #24580559
Ok, I am having some difficulty translating RN features into function ;) I have ReadyNAS 316 16TB RAID6 in XRAID2 mode. I have created some shares and mapped a windows 7 drive to backup a bunch ...

Okay, that was an adventure ;)
Apparently I already had a ReadyCloud account setup, but wasn't choosing that 'Get ready for sync/backup' option- which downloaded and installed client software quite directly! Not sure why any of the other links didn't...
I tried adding a Cloud account, but it must be only for the main admin account registering the NAS. It wouldn't let me use the same email account and then couldn't Discover any NAS.
I logged back into my main account and browsed the NAS for a directory I created and loaded from my Z: share in windows a couple of days ago, figuring it would be a good sync test.
I clicked it and chose to sync directory with PC. So far so good. I'll just choose my PC directory to sync it too and life will be grand...WTF??? No, no choice on directory on the PC. Instead it simply CREATES A NEW DIRECTORY IN WHATEVER THE HECK DIRECTORY IT FEELS LIKE AND COPIES ALL THE FILES TO MY PC!
Real nice :(
Fortunately, it only contained about 50 pictures. Glad I didn't try to sync my 'real' data.
Ok, I see the C:\Users\{usernameObscured}\ReadyCLOUD that was newly created. It must be a 'Live' sync directory. I can just create a shortcut in this directory structure and it will sync to the same NAS location...NOPE! Does nothing.
Okay, perhaps I can choose my EXISTING DIRECTORIES on my PC for sync to NAS. I am not going to redesign my entire hard drive layout to suit the NAS sync whatever directory structure it creates....NOPE! No explorer extension to sync to NAS.
Okay, perhaps I need to relaunch the windows client software....NOPE! It just links back to the readycloud.netgear.com site. Ugh!
Tell me, am I completely misunderstanding how this thing works? I sure hope it doesn't ALWAYS REQUIRE me to go through NetGear's website portal for all my data!
How do I sync a PC directory to the NAS while preserving my PC directory structure?
If it is necessary to run it all through shares and 3rd party apps instead of NG software, WHY use a ReadyNAS?
I'm getting frustrated chasing this darn thing around the rabbit hole looking to use the advertised features. So far I see "RAID" as the only feature. Requiring access via an INTERNET WEB PAGE is nutz. Tell me I'm missing the "real" login and features, please!
Thanks!
