I have just learned how to get the unit set up in RAID6 from the start. This is way more efficient than trying to do an expansion.
1. Start with a factory default boot and all drive bays populated. All data will be erased.
2. Login to the admin GUI and complete the initial setup wizard.
3. Go to the Volume tab, click on the X-RAID button to put the unit in Flex-RAID mode
4. Click on the Setting gear next to the blue volume circle and then on the Destroy tab in the popup window.
5. Select all drives and click on the create volume button
6. Select RAID6 from the drop-down list in the popup window that opens, and click OK
7. You can choose to leave the unit in Flex-RAID or switch back to X-RAID now.
At the end of this process, my unit reported that it would take 34 hours to build a RAID 6 array consisting of six 4TB disks. Much faster than my earlier attempt that took 14 hours to build a 5 disk RAID5 array and then reported that it would take over 200 hours to expand this to a 6 disk RAID6 array.
Thanks again to the Netgear Tech Support team for their help in getting my RN up and running again.
^^This^^ needs to be a sticky!
Just followed it, worked perfectly! (Minor differences like 'ok' was really 'Create' in 6.2.2 but very easy to follow)
THANKS FOR POSTING THIS PROCEDURE!!!
