Correct. The limits are actually TiB, but that doesn't change the result. 1 TiB is 1024*1024*1024*1024 bytes. 1 TB is 1000*1000*1000*1000 bytes.

Also basically correct. Presently you have 3 TB (~2.72 TiB).

When you insert the 2nd 3 TB drive you will end up with 5 TB (~4.55 TiB). Likely you will need to reboot after the second drive syncs to get the expansion (not waiting until disk 4 resyncs).

Then insert the 3rd drive (it will expand to 7 TB or ~6.36 TiB), and the fourth (ending up at 9 TB or ~8.19 TiB)

I don't have a v2, but the sync will likely take more than 12 hours, so inserting one a day is reasonable.

The benefit of the hot-insert method is that your data is accessible throughout the process. The factory reset with 4x3TB installed would be faster. But it would take the NAS offline for a day or so, and would require you to set up the NAS again and restore your data from backup. The reset also would re-set your growth limit, so you could expand to 16 TiB in the future.
