NV+ v2 Won't Boot - Fast Flashing Backup Light Only

I have a ReadyNAS NV+ V2 that will not boot.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.  I searched the forum but couldn't find an answer that worked.

Below is what I know and have tried.

  • Lights on unit with power on:  Power button light on, Backup light flashes quickly, Act light briefly flashes right after pressing power button, display screen on but nothing displayed.
  • Cannot turn off unit using power button.
  • Cannot access boot menu using paperclip/reset button method from Netgear instructions.
  • Tried removing one disk at a time with power cycles between each disk.
  • The fan spins.
  • I can hear the hard drives spin up.
  • I am on 5.3.11
  • I haven't tried the USB boot method because I cannot find an appropriate image.
  • RAIDar cannot see the unit.
  • The ethernet lights on the back are active/flashing.
  • The drives are all WD Red.  2x2tb and 2x4tb.

Any thoughts?

Michael.

    Hello MichaelCH619,

Do the disks have important files or it's okay to format them using the NAS? If they have files, do you have backup of the files?

    Regards,

Thank you for responding  There are important files on the drives and my backup is corrupt :(

I do have other hard drives available for testing if that helps.

      Thanks again,

      Michael.

Try powering down and removing all the drives-labeling them by slot.

The install one disk (ideally zeroed) and see if the NAS does the expected factory install.  That will determine that the chassis is working correctly.

  • Thank you for letting me know. Do you know if I could insert the disks in a new unit running OS 6 and recover the data? Amazon could deliver a ReadyNas 104 or 204 tomorrow.

  • Thank you. The article is helpful. Can I buy any ReadyNAS or should I stick to the 100 or 200 series?
